Greetings from your new VISTAS!

Hi everyone!

Welcome to EducationCorps 2014-15. As you may know, Matt and Allie have recently ended their term of service, and as the new program coordinators and AmeriCorps VISTAs, we wanted to introduce ourselves.

Born and raised in San Diego, Tassandra recently returned to her hometown after living among the Redwoods in Arcata, CA. Tassandra is passionate about serving local students and contributing to social change in education. As both an Admissions Representative for the Prospective Student Center and Mentor for the Educational Opportunity Program at San Diego State University, she most enjoyed helping students feel connected to a community, engaged in their experience, and supported in overcoming barriers to education. Tassandra is a proud Aztec for Life, with a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies and she is very excited to join the UC San Diego Tritons this year.

Samantha graduated from UC San Diego in 2013 with a BA in Latin American history and is glad to be back among her fellow Tritons. As a student, she was a research assistant and active member of the Beta Eta chapter of Alpha Epsilon Phi. Over the past year, she worked at the Library Shop, an independent bookstore located inside the new Central Library, before taking the AmeriCorps VISTA position with Education Corps at UCSD. She is looking forward to her year of service, which is another step on her path toward working in non-profits and public history.

We are so excited to have the opportunity to work with all of you and get to know you personally. Be on the lookout for more updates as the school year gets closer!
